Hey hey all,

Hope all of you crazy Ottawa kids are doin well. I never did have a chance to thank the OFA committee for the OFA duffel bag I received - much appreciated! I used it for my trip to Edmonton. That's what gave me the good karma. Wink

In any case, as some of you may know, I ended up placing as the highest Canadian at the event, which has pegged me as Canadian Singles National Champion, and got me a spot on the World Cup Team. Being the CNC means I get the chance to represent Canada in the World Championships in singles at the same venue as the World Cup (France in January).

Unfortunately, there's no funding that TSAC has alloted/has been able to build to sponsor the National Champions or the players for the World Cup team for this trip. As you can imagine, though it's a great honour to be able to go, it's also a very expensive honour. We're looking at flights of about $800 (from Toronto) , and various other travel expenses (including accomodation, food, and jerseys and the like) at about another $800-$1000.

Can anyone think of any way to get some funding or sponsors in time for this? It's important to get our best players out there, but if they can't afford to go by paying their own way, I think there should be some way we can help them (==me. Smile ) .

Any ideas on the matter? Liudas, JP, I think you two have the most marketing/PR experience...?
one idea would be to get your local club to throw .25cents from every game played to the cause...

You're assuming we have a local club. Wink Toronto players gather in Olavo's basement every Friday night. Olavo's is a person's house, not a bar.
Funny you mention this, cause currently we are intensively working on that back home. Though costs are way smaller, but we still need money to get from LT to FRA...

What I am doing now is trying to set up a generic proposal that could be used to approach various companies for sponsorship. We still need to clarify if we can wear sponsor logo's on our national jerseys and etc, but that would be one of the options to get cash. Also we are looking at the companies that foos fans are employed in, hopefully digging up some that would be willing to support the team.

Also we have couple of people in mass media and will try to use them to promote national team (create awareness) and use it to get our foot into the doors of companies that could be able to help us out.

Once things will get rolling I'll share that here too. Main thing is you need ppl knocking at the doors and raising the funds. No one will do that for you.
Mario,
Since you were such a good guy while in Ottawa I will talk to Chris about some ideas I have to help out.
Back at you after I discuss with Chris T.

Regards,
VernR -- by the way great job in the west. Edmonton is one of my favourite places.

yeah as luidas said, the biggest cash cow would be to have sponsorship logos on Team Canada jerseys....

Chris Thomas has some sponsorship package proposals he's done before in regards to sponsoring some OFA events... i'm sure those proposals could be amended for your purposes... you need to approach companies with this proposal, demonstrating what they get out of it. Don't be shy in companies big and small, from the Royal Bank, all the way to BoosterJuice.... To them, $800 is a pittance....

so who did you have to beat to be the highest placing canadian? did you play dunner?
Mario - Find out.
What you can do for sponsors on the jerseys. Does ITSF allow for sponsors?
What other things can the sponsors get - space on the website - speaking of which how is the TSAC website coming.

I can help you get a sponsorship package together.

Also I am sure we can run a fund raising event here for you so that you can have a jersey to match the bag Tongue
Chris, do you mind sharing stuff you have for partnerships with me too? I promise not to use it on this side of the big pond Smile

Here is the sponsorship package we used for the Boys and Girls club. I have used similar one back in school when we did fund raising for different projects.

Chris
Thanks

ITSF does allow for sponsors to have their logo's etc on team wear. That's totally fine, as long as the team matches - and looks like a team (and not a walking poster board).. The TSAC site would be usuable as well.

Whatever TSAC can do - we'll do.

Eurosport 2 will be covering the event again - but there's no guarantee that our team will get any air coverage - of course if we put together our best team - with the best players, then the chances greatly increases.

Best case scenario would find us being sponsored by a company that wanted european tv exposure - cause honestly i think that's the best asset we have to offer right now.

I'll try to put something together quickly that outlines what we can offer Eric. Hopefully have it done in the next few days. Can anyone think of companies that might be interested?
